They're nearly to Las Vegas when Felix heads off into a nearby suburb, driving around a bit until he finds what looks like a reasonably upscale part of town, and thence to the first thrift shop he can find. It's mid-afternoon and warm, which is not a change, but at least it's less humid here, right? He opens Lilah's door for her if she cooperates (but doesn't seem overly bothered if she doesn't) and takes her hand, of course, to lead her into the blessed AC. "Okay," he explains as he leads the way through some of the racks, looking around to work out how the store's laid out, "I have a plan. You wanted to go to a nightclub and Vegas's gotta have somethin' like a million of 'em, so perfect opportunity, right? But. First, we gotta find you a dress." He locates a rack of extremely assorted dresses and glances sidelong at her, looking her over, albeit with a different sort of appraisal than usual. "'bout what kinda size would you say you wear?"
As they get to the upscale part of town, Lilah blinks a little, staring out at the houses with avid interest. She doesn't look envious, so much as fascinated. When he moves to open her door, she allows it, taking his hand and giving him a warm smile. She brushes a bit of hair away from her face, and then looks straight up as they reach AC. She rolls her neck, and then moves wherever he leads. She sounds actively touched that he's remembered about hte nightclub, and takes a brief opportunity to kiss his cheek before answering, "'Bout a two. Sometimes a one 'r a three, though. It depends on what I'm wearin'." She squeezes his hand, looking generally pleased with life.
Felix squeezes back, smiling at the kiss. There appears to be only one person working at this store currently, although perhaps someone else is in 'the back'. The visible woman is probably in her mid-50s and looks as though she can't quite decide whether to be a bit charmed by what looks like young-kids-in-love or suspicious and uneasy because everyone knows kids are thieves and general trouble, those two don't quite look like this is their sort of area, and that boy in particular has a troublesome look about him. It boils down to keeping a firm eye on them from the till, in the end. "Okay," he says, and releases Lilah's hand so he can start pushing through the rack, finding the appropriate range. There are actually a fair number, although it needs further weeding, and he mutters to himself as he moves the rejects aside, "Too formal, too long, too old..." One particularly revealing one doesn't get a 'too', but instead gets eyed for a second or so longer than most of the others before it gets rejected anyway. There are four or five options left, and he holds each one up to her critically before narrowing it down to three. One's labled a 0/1, the others both 2/3, and all three could be broadly described as "short and tight", but still acceptable to wear in front of one's grandmother. The smallest is a red satiny strapless thing, and the other two are a white one with a ruched skirt and a blousy top that seems designed to fall off one shoulder, and a silvery-white bandage dress that glints metallic in the light. "Try these on."
Lilah breathes out the tiniest, barely-caught sigh of relief when he rejects the revealing one. Beyond that, she doesn't seem to react to any one dress in particular, and neither does she seem to mind being bossed around. Maybe she's used to it, or maybe she finds it charming, who knows? She takes the dresses from him and heads for a dressing room. She doesn't come out for awhile, instead humming as she tries them on. And since I know you're going to ask, she's humming Katy Perry's 'E.T.' When she does come out, she's slipping back into her strappy sandals, the dresses over her arm. She offers the ruched skirt dress, saying, "This one didn't fit, but the other two did." Not that she modeled them for him, alas.
Felix leans up against the doorway that leads to the cubicles while he waits, and accepts the rejected dress when she emerges, tilting his head at her. "What, I don't get to see how they look on? That's gonna make it trickier, y'know," he teases, and then, "What size shoes d'you need?"
"You'll get to see it at the nightclub, 'r when we leave, 'm sure," Lilah drawls, but then adds, "If'n you insist, though, I can try'm on again. Eight-an'-a-half." Because I steal everything from T-Swift. She chews at her bottom lip, gaze drifting down to his mouth, and then looks away. "What're you gonna wear?" she asks curiously.
"Not sure yet. Somethin' that looks good with you," Felix replies, and that gaze drifting to his mouth causes it to half-smile, as he gives her one of those... looks, "...and I insist." He pushes off the wall and strolls back to the dress rack to replace the reject, on the way to finding where they keep the shoes. These get eyed the same way the dresses did, although with a lot less pushing things around. Three pairs make whatever the cut is to be brought to her; they're all basically strappy high heeled sandals, higher than she generally wears, in silver, nude, and black. The silver are the most delicate looking, the black ones a bit chunkier than the others, but all in good shape. Most things in this store seem to be in pretty good shape, despite being second hand.
That look he gives her does NOT help her, and her gaze shifts to his mouth again, even as she gives a little half-smile of her own. Her hand ends up running down his arm as he insists, and then she turns around to enter the changing room again, closing it behind her. She slips on the red dress first, coming out shortly thereafter with her sandals in her hand. The red dress fits with just a bit of give to it, though not enough that it looks to sag or leave hugs gaps. She reaches out to try and take the black sandals from him, and says nothing. She seems a bit shy, at the moment.
Felix watches her emerge, giving her an approving smile, and lets her take the black sandals; the other two pairs he sets down on the ground near her, so that she can do as she wishes with them. Settling at his bit of wall again, arms crossed, he waits until she has the first pair on and is standing again before looking the effect over consideringly and then lifting and rotating one finger in a 'turn around' gesture. The smile remains, if a bit more subtle.
Lilah leans up against the wall on her side, then lifts up her right foot, propping it up against her left knee. She slips on the first black sandal, and then rotates her foot a bit, testing how it fits. Seems to fit fine, though she puts on the second sandal in a similar fashion, just to be sure. It's probably worth mentioning that he's likely to notice the lack of a bra at this point. She was definitely wearing one earlier, and must've taken it off so the straps don't show; it may even be why she's seeming so shy. At his finger motion, she lifts up her arms a bit in a Vanna White sort of gesture, and turns about to let him get a better look at the dress.
The gesture gets a wider smile, and Felix tilts his head to watch the turn. "Try the nude ones with that one real quick, then let's see the other dress." He pauses a moment before adding, "Y'do look beautiful, though. Red suits you." He probably has noticed the lack of bra, but for once he's the one not commenting. Amazing!
Amazing, indeed! Lilah gives him a particularly smitten look, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear and ducking her head a bit. "Thanks," she says, and then slips out of the black sandals, one after the other. She tries on the nude pair next, and repeats her little twirl. This pair seems to fit, as well. "How you know so much about this stuff?" she asks curiously, giving him another of those fond smiles.
Felix looks pleased at the smitten look, and of course keeps watching her while she continues. "Those work better with that one," he decides, after her twirl; the question surprises him a little, it seems. "Which stuff, 'zactly?"
"Any of the stuff ya know. Yer smart, an' you know 'bout dresses 'n sizes 'n ... everything." Lilah sounds more than a little impressed, and her eyes shift to his lips again, then to his face in general. She tilts her head then, and asks, "Y'want me t'try on the other dress again?"
"Definitely," Felix replies to the last question; the first one needs slightly more thought. "I pay attention to stuff if I think it's interesting, I guess. Like you, Miss Merriweather." A playful grin to her, although there's a ring of truth to the claim. "This here... well, I reckon I like clubs, and I like girls, so I notice what girls wear to clubs. Especially pretty girls who don't have to wait in line all night." He gives her a sidelong look and teases, "Just wait 'til we get to things I =don't= find interestin'. That'll be a whole different ballgame."
Those blushing cheeks make their reappearance at last, and Lilah ducks her head again, looking embarrassed but absolutely delighted at the same time. Maybe that's why she ducks into the changing room, closing the door and starting to change. He can hear the rustling of cloth as she asks, "So what dontcha find interestin'?"
"Ball games," Felix replies promptly and cheerfully. One might think he expected that question. "...seriously, baseball is some kinda special hell, except for the beer. ...and I guess the hot dogs are okay. Soccer 'n' basketball are a little better I guess. Football I guess isn't too bad if you can just watch the highlights." A pause. "You're not gonna lynch me for that, right? Last time I told people that about football I could swear they started lookin' for kindlin'. Uh... historical presidents. Most politics. Algebra. Other stuff, I'm sure, but now even the LIST is startin' to get borin'." It's only mostly a joke.
He can hear her chuckle under her breath at some of that, and when Lilah emerges, it's only after he's finished. She's of course wearing the silvery-white dress, which fits like a glove. She nervously tugs at the bottom hem, pulling it down, and then slips her feet into the silver shoes. Miraculously, they fit as well. She even does a little twirl, before she turns to face him, resting a hand on his shoulder. "I forgive you for not likin' baseball," she teases, "But I'm 'fraid you 'n I are gonna hafta part ways now. I can't love a football-hatin' man." She pauses, then grins, giving up even a faint facade of upset with him. Her hand remains where it is. "Whatcha think? Which one?"
Felix looks to the door of her cubicle when he hears it opening, and watches her emerge, gaze very much fixed on her while she puts on the heels and does the turn. When she puts her hand on his shoulder, his hands move to rest lightly on either side of her waist. "If I've gotta spend a couple hours lookin' at a bunch of dudes in tight pants I'd rather be doin' it in a context that serves drinks and lets me be dancing," he replies, "And this one. The other's nice, good colour on you and all. But definitely this one. Coulda been made for you."
Lilah puts her other hand on his waist, smiling softly to him. "Fair 'nuff," she decides, on both counts. She starts pulling away from him after a moment or two of just sorta looking into his eyes and lightly swaying, as though to music unheard. "I'll get back in m'street clothes-- or are we goin' straight from here to the club?"
Felix keeps hold of her a moment longer before letting her go. "Sec," he says, and takes a step away as well to look her over again. "...okay. We still need a few things, but yeah, you can change back." Alas. He gives her a smile and heads back into the store proper to let her do that; when she emerges, she'll find him poking through another rack and giving a black chalk-stripe suit some apparently serious consideration, in the form of checking to see just how long the trousers are. Perhaps surprisingly they're actually in about the right range, but then again, by now he's probably narrowed things down to the annoyingly small selection of specifically 'short' items.
Lilah leans back against the wall outside of the changing room, making an effort to observe without being noticed. There's a faint curve at the edge of her lips as she watches him, and she does so for about as long as it takes to end up noticed, or for him to make a decision. At that point, she heads over toward him, running her fingers down his arm.
She gets to observe for a good ten or fifteen seconds before Felix decides it's made the cut for the next round of auditions, which consists of it and... well, just it, really. It is a neighbourhood with nice castoffs, skinny women, and tall men, it would seem. Still, he looks happy enough with it so far, and happier when he sees Lilah and she joins him. "Hi," he greets her as she touches his arm, and leans in, free hand moving to her waist again, to try to steal a quick kiss. "I'm gonna try this on, won't take long. Then we gotta drop by Walmart, then we get goin' again. All good?"
Lilah lets him steal that kiss, resting a hand on his cheek and looking at him fondly. "You better hurry," she teases. "I wanna see you in it." That said, she nods to the rest of what he has to say. "All good," she echoes.
"Better come with, then," Felix says, taking her hand and returning fitting-roomward. He doesn't let go until the very last possible moment, acting as though he intends to bring her right on in with him -- but such is not inflicted on her. Unless of course she seems to want it to be! It takes him a couple minutes to change, though he just (mostly) buttons his overshirt and tucks that in rather than removing shirts, so that surely speeds things up. He steps out, then, making a small 'tada' sort of presentation gesture with both hands around hip level. "Thoughts?" He takes a couple steps in her direction and does a turn, 'cause hey, it's only fair.
Lilah laughs as he takes her hand, and protests, "I can wait, I can wait!" as she's dragged toward the fitting rooms, giggling all the way. She waits MUCH more patiently than she probably would have otherwise once he's changing, and as he exits the changing room, her brows lift practically to her hairline. She plays it cool: "That'll do," she says. And then tries to pull him in for a slightly less chaste kiss.
Felix can play the playin' it cool game too! "I know, right?" he drawls, and laughs when she tries to pull him in, of course cooperating with her plan entirely. His arms slip around her waist, and he tries to pull her in a bit closer as well. "...so," he says when the kiss breaks, "I think we're gettin' near set. Done here, leastways. Once I change back."
It's easy for him to pull her closer, and once the kiss breaks, Lilah takes a slow look at him, from hair down to shoes and back up again, nodding her approval as though it weren't already clear. "That works for me," she says, seemingly about being almost done, but certainly also about the outfit.
"Gonna change a few details, but since I ain't got my bag in here..." Felix shrugs, but can't help looking pleased with her reaction. He lets her go and returns to the dressing room; changing back turns out to be slightly quicker. Not too many minutes dealing with the lady at the till, and they're back out at the Caddy, ready to head on to their next stop.
<OOC> Felix says, "...which I can summarise. ;)"
<OOC> Lilah says, "Okie!"
<OOC> Lilah says, "I won't pose here... yours is perfect to end that section, if it's okay."
<OOC> Felix says, "Headin' to Walmart or Target or the mall, whatever he finds first. He's getting a red linen shirt, and whether she was aware of the fact or not, she's getting some silver(coloured)-and-rhinestone earrings and a few skinny silver bangles. Oh, and some nylons. I'm gonna just declare he's already got shoes and belt that'll work. ;)"
<OOC> Felix says, "...thence onward into the city! And dinner, probably. Get a chance to figure out where they want to try to go. And find a good place to get ready."
<OOC> Lilah says, "Cool. :)"
<OOC> Felix says, "(also, something like https://img1.etsystatic.com/000/1/5488510/il_fullxfull.291313733.jpg maybe? I dunno. Dangly though.) We can pick up at whatever point you'd want."
<OOC> Felix says, "I am gettin' kind of sleepy though. Sads."
<OOC> Lilah says, "PRETTY. I say we pick up at the arrival at the club. And I am also slightly sleepy. Should we sleep?"
<OOC> Felix says, "We possibly should."
<OOC> Felix says, "and then tomorrow probably shortish clubbing and continuing and who knows maybe we'll make it ;)"
<OOC> Lilah says, "Or we could even elide the clubbing."
<OOC> Felix says, "Most of it probably pretty much could be... hmm."
<OOC> Felix says, "He's depending on talk, magic, and her prettiness to get her in. *^_^*"
<OOC> Lilah says, "Heeeee. <3"
<OOC> Felix says, "He thinks it'll work but it's a weird little con. :)"
<OOC> Lilah grins. :D
<OOC> Lilah says, "Minor detail that amuses me... when they're in and dancing, she'll occasionally rub/scratch at her legs. SO not used to nylons. :P"
<OOC> Felix grins! Well, he thinks they're unnecessary, personally. But he's not manning the door.
<OOC> Lilah says, "Yeah. :P"
<OOC> Lilah says, "She doesn't mention it, or complain. Just occasionally can't help but rub/scratch. ;)"
<OOC> Felix gets to fairly-tipsy, attempts to 'help' the next time she does it. ;)
<OOC> Lilah says, "HAHAHAHAH."
<OOC> Lilah says, "If she's drunk enough she'll let him help. ;)"
<OOC> Felix says, "Woohoo! ;D"
<OOC> Felix says, "If we are going to elide it, want to specify stuff in general now? Since we partly are already."
<OOC> Lilah says, "Sure!"
<OOC> Felix says, "Okay, things I know! Not all in one go."
<OOC> Lilah nodnods.
<OOC> Felix says, "He looks through the free paper/guide/brochure things I remember being around a bunch in Vegas and identifies a couple promising-looking places. Here is his cunning plan! ;) Obviously he has Persuasion up because duh. Probably habit for clubbing anyway by now. ;) When they get up to the bouncer (almost certainly a lot faster with Lilah than it'd be without), he pulls out his wallet and shows the guy two cards, his fake and her license. At the same time, he's aiming to use Mindspeak in a way which I have never seen done but it's shittily described and I don't really see why one couldn't do this, which is, use the 'waking daydream' to make the guy 'daydream' that he's seeing exactly what he is, except with her card giving the right dates. If it's going quite well they might not even have to pay the proper price to get in. If it's going ridiculously well and he pushes it (::cough::) they might even be given change."
<OOC> Lilah says, "HAHAHAAHAH."
<OOC> Lilah says, "I love it."
<OOC> Felix grins.
<OOC> Lilah says, "What is Mindspeak, anyway?"
<OOC> Felix | This gift allows the user to pull others within line-of-sight into a shared waking dream wherein all may communicate without giving a clue to others that they are communicating. However, it is a distraction to communicate in this way, and individuals participating in the waking dream will have a more difficult time talking, fighting, or doing anything that requires more than a passing effort.
<OOC> Lilah ooooohs.
<OOC> Felix says, "The Galliard appears (from all the rp I've seen with it and from that sad description) to have control over the 'shared waking dream'. So I don't see why it couldn't be altered to appear the way he wants."
<OOC> Lilah says, "Clever. :D"
<OOC> Lilah says, "I like it."
<OOC> Felix says, "Thank you. :D I don't know if STs in general would go for it but fuck it, this is our scene so hey."
<OOC> Lilah says, "If you end up putting that detail in your app and staff balks and says it doesn't go, we can always imagine he'd paid off the bouncer. ;)"
<OOC> Lilah says, "And yeah, I'm cool with it, so let's! :)"
<OOC> Felix says, "Inside! Inside there is dancing. And drinks. Which he'll buy some of and almost certainly also steal when they're unattended if the chance arises."
<OOC> Lilah grins.
<OOC> Felix, sliiiightly opportunistic.
<OOC> Lilah says, "She'll also offer up drink money. :P"
<OOC> Lilah says, "HEE."
<OOC> Lilah says, "Which reminds me... on the trip, she's not pushy about it or demanding he take it, but she offers gas money and stuff when it's getting filled up."
<OOC> Felix says, "...well sure but that's less fun and you don't have as much money for MORE drinks afterward. O:)"
<OOC> Lilah says, "HAHAHAH."
<OOC> Lilah says, "I love him so hard."
<OOC> Felix grins!
<OOC> Lilah says, "She's a pretty good dancer. Dancing 2 or 3, I imagine. Dex of 2 though, so not FANTASTIC. But she really REALLY enjoys it."
<OOC> Lilah says, "And dancing with charming boys is just added bonus."
<OOC> Felix says, "He definitely wants to make sure she has a good time. So he's probably paying a lot of attention to her to try to catch any wants etc. before they start being bothersome."
<OOC> Felix grins. He's pretty good, since he'd be rolling off dex and performance.
<OOC> Lilah says, "D'awwwwwww! She's feeling GREAT. Especially after a few drinks. ;)"
<OOC> Lilah says, "And she's pretty attentive to him, to be fair. Probably not AS attentive as he is, especially once she's sauced, but. She's ridiculously fond of him, and used to taking care of people."
<OOC> Felix grins. He can be VERY attentive when he wants to be. But he has to want to be.
<OOC> Lilah hee!
<OOC> Felix says, "I am of course presuming that in the process of evening-enjoying they both manage to get considerably fucked-up."
<OOC> Lilah says, "Yep!"
<OOC> Felix says, "Thus far this is considered a successful evening. ;)"
