Homey is the first word to come to mind when looking at the farmhouse's kitchen. Dark, wood-paneled wainscoting covers the walls to about waist height, dark beige wallpaper continuing to the ceiling. Twin refrigerators occupy the north wall, facing the large six-burner stove on the south. The kitchen counter runs the length of the eastern wall, broken only by the double-basin sink. Cabinets run above and below the counter and a twin-pane window is set in the wall above the sink. A small pantry is set into an alcove alongside the refrigerators, presumably holding the deep freezer as well as shelves of dry goods.
Some twelve feet above the floor, a large chandelier hangs from the ceiling, lighting the dining room and casting long shadows over the bar to the kitchen. A long table occupies the center of the dining room, three chairs setting along each side, and one on each end. On the west wall, a large window looks out on the trees alongside the western pasture. Set into the north wall is a large cabinet, its glass doors closed on shelves containing a full compliment of fine china and glassware as well as a few decorative nicknacks. On the east, a wide bar separates the dining room from the kitchen.
An opening in the southern wall allows passage to the front entryway of the house, while a sliding glass door in the kitchen opens to a clearing behind the house
In the back of the house, "Everybody has something, they had to leave behind. One regret from yesterday, that seemed to grow in time. There's no use looking back or wondering, how it could have been or not have been. This I know but can't find ways to let you go. I never had a dream come true, till' the day that I found you. Even though I pretend I moved on, you'll always be my baby." The beautiful words of the Galliard rips out from the kitchen, her voice hanging perfectly in pitch. The song is slow, romantic in a drawl as the soft thumps of footsteps can be heard, then the clinking of plates.
The sound of the front door opening carries though the room, and Bernie slips in, closing the door again behind her. She smiles at the voice carrying through the area, and heads toward the kitchen.
"I never found the words to say; Your the one I think about each day. And I know no matter where life takes me to. A part of me will be with you...." She trails off the last word, gently swaying from side to side. "Somewhere in my memory, I lost all sense of time." Hearing footsteps, she stops and glances over her shoulder, pulling her lips into a soft smile, cheeks tinting, then begins to sing, dramatically to her. "I never had a dream come true, until the day I found you." One finger points to her friend. "Even though I pretend I moved on, you'll always be my baby. I never found the words to say, you're the one I think 'bout each day."
Bernie laughs, blushing slightly herself at being sung at. "Stop that!" she exclaims, grinning, and sets her backpack down on the table, sliding her jacket off and hanging it on a chair before she pushes her sleeves up and heads over ot help mess with the dishes.
Alicia grins and continues to sing, slinking her arms around Bernie's neck as she draws herself to her. "Ooh yer' moving too fast, all I need is the time to wait till' tomorrow. You, just keep holding on, holding onto the pain we felt together back in time." This time, her voice picks up into a faster beat. She begins to move her lips from left to right, a seductive sway. "Love is the reason why I need you, to always be my friend. I kept on trying but you ran away, an left me to pretend. I just kept moving away from you when you came close to me. I can't keep playing these games anymore, baby, can't you see? Oooh! Your moving too fast, I jus' need the time to wait till tomorrow." Her eyes sparkle brightly teasingly in the faint ambiance of lighting that spills from the kitchen, the Galliard turning on the charm.
"Hey," Bernie threatens, grinning, "thong or not, I'll wedgie you, don't think I won't..." She gives the other cub a hug, then suddenly ducks away, giggling a little.
Alicia bursts out laughing as she playfully pushes her to the side. She looks a bit sweaty from most likely dancing around the kitchen from cleaning up. "Yah? You know, some girls might like that kinda thing." Winking, she leans against the counter. "Eveyrone went off to do some Sept shit. Just us tonight baby cakes."
Bernie leans against the table, eyeing the Galliard. "Yeah? Well, I trust ya not t' take 'vantage of my innocent self." She smirks. "So you're cheerful t'day. 'sup? V-day go well?"
Alicia ums a bit. "Yah, it did. Seeing how the idiot comes over an FORGOT it was Valentines Day!" She sighs. "After we got the kitchen all cute an stuff, I got this dress on, make up, waiting all sexy like on the couch, an all he can say is.. "Uh... Hi baby... Um... whats going on?" She face palms.
Bernie laughs, and shakes her head. "Okay, that's pretty amusing. S'pose you informed him of his error an' everything went a'ight from there, though?"
Alicia smirks. "Because of his error, I went straight into how he has to do some spy work for us at the College. Then, Chaser comes in an she's like "Hey, you look good." Man.. That was the nicest thing I ever heard her say. I think she was eyeballing Tom." A slight huff. "So, he agree'd to do the spy thing for us. Then we had dinner, an THEN he started acting loving. He started to pull my chair for me, stare into my eyes, paid more attention to my tits then dinner." Grins. "I'm a vengeful bitch. Instead of putting out, I took him for a small walk through the woods, kissed him good night an sent him on his way." Huffs gently. "Forget Valentines day. I don't think so."
Bernie grins, and shakes her head. "..oh well. Th' cookin' an' all was fun, anyhow." She stretches a bit, pulling out a chair and dropping into it. "So I had this plan for you talkin' to your brother. What's the edge of your permitted range, in th' woods?"
"Bawn an Caern. Thats it." She says with a huff and shrug of her shoulders. "Thats as far as I can go honestly." Comes Alicia's reply.
Bernie makes a face, and sighs. "That sucks. Don't wanna take him on bawnlands..." She bites her lower lip lightly, thinking, and nods. "'kay, I'll keep thinkin'. So. What else's new? Y'eat all th' choc'late I gave ya already?"
Alicia chuckles. "I didn't even touch the cake we made. No.. I didn't even get to it. Tom an I was really too busy talking 'bout that skeleton thing to really...do anything romantic." She sighs softly. "One day out of the year I like the most and its all work an no pleasure."
Bernie makes a face, and nods. "...Wanna know how I spent th' evenin'?" she queries, with a half smile.
Alicia grins and nods her head, scooting herself up on the counter, crossing her legs. "Sure, how?"
A broad grin. "I got Yi her job back." Bernie settles back in her chair, looking rather pleased and proud. "She starts again Saturday mornin'. So either I'm a hell of a talker, or I got th' hang of ht' Persuasion thing. Or, hey, both."
Alicia smiles and holds up her hand for a High 5. "Thats awesome chick! Now we both know the same gift. I'm glad you got it back for her. Now ya got the Gnawer cash flow going once more."
Bernie slaps the hand, and nods. "Yup... after I Rite, I think I gotta look for some kinda income too, y'know? Runnin' outta my savin's, an'," slight half-smile, "discounts only go so far... an' I don' wanna be, like, spongin' off everyone. Plus I wanna get my GED an' do th' college thing, an' I gotta find money for that, y'know?"
Alicia wets her lips some and shifts a bit on her feet. "Well.. Maybe I can help you with that." She judges your reaction for a moment, a look of seriousness on her face.
Bernie tilts her head, arching a brow. "...like how?" she queries, curious.
Alicia offers a slight shrug. "Tom is rich. Seriously so he told me. Both of his parents are doctors, he's ganna be on also. The dude is loaded. I can talk to him, see what he can do to help the local Urrah out, as long as he's not..over ran by Garou in the night looking for handouts, but I don't see why he won't help, its not like he's doing anything else with it."
"...'s nicea you t' offer," Bernie replies, "...but like I said 'bout th' spongin' thing, y'know? Anyway, I oughta be able t' do somethin', an' hey, maybe I c'n get a scholarship or somethin'." She pushes a curl back behind her ear, looking worried for a moment.
Alicia hmms "You definitly can Books. Your super smart. Prolly more smarter then any other Garou 'ere." Smiling, she pats you on the shoulder and heads into the living room, bouncing a bit from left to right on her feet, a smug, confident gait.
Bernie rises, scooping up her backpack and jacket and following into the other room. "Thanks," she remarks. "...gotta see what happens, really. So where -is- everyone t' night, anyhow?"
"Oh.. they all went to the Sept of Gaia's tears to kick some serious ass. Prolly ganna have a lot of people coming back home bloody. Yi says to um...take care of yourself." She glances over her shoulder to you. "You know, now that I think about it, that didn't sound so good... Um..."
Bernie blinks, dropping her stuff gently to the ground and flopping on the couch. "No, no it doesn't," she agrees, looking more worried. "...I wish I knew that healin' thing. I wonder 'f I c'n get someone t' teach me how t' do it..." She runs a hand through her curls, and makes a face. "...somea this shit, I don' think I'm ever gonna like."
Alicia slips down next to her, one arm draping around the Gnawer. "Chances are, I'll learn that gift before you." She grins. "You can sneak into the wyrm places an get your ass kicked, an I'll back ya up an heal ya." She smiles, winking. "I caught a rumor, Helen is on her passage now. Pfft. She couldn't even wait for me."
Bernie smirks. "I don' -wanna- get my ass kicked; I wanna be able t' do more'n yell 'MEDIC!!!' when people I care 'bout get -theirs- kicked. An' yeah? Funky..." Her brow furrows again; she looks even more worried now. "There's some talk how I'm s'posta go soon, I dunno 'f I'm ready. An' prolly I'll hafta go alone, an' I'd rather go with you or Matt or both... though I'd rather go alone than with Problem Child." She shakes her head, still obviously disgusted with her fellow cub, but that fades slightly as she nibbles on her bottom lip.
Alicia blinks and reaches over, squeezing her hand tightly. "I'll talk to Adam, see what we can do to getting me on the same boat as you. We /deserve/ to go together. Matt to. The three musketeers, thats us." Drawing you into a hug, she sighs tightly. "I know you'll make it tho' Bernie. You will, even if your alone, just know that we're with ya every step of the way in spirit."
"Us'ly i'n't that -my- line?" the ragabash asks, hugging back with a half-smile. "...I dunno. I still think we'll all make it, but... I dunno. Maybe Matt makin' comments like not bein' sure he's gonna be there a month from now's startin' t' influence my sunny disposition." She pushes that curl back behind her ear, and as usual it jumps right back out. "...I mean, not that he says that all th' time or anythin', 'course, but... I dunno. Scares me, I guess." She shakes her head slightly, as if trying to throw that off. "'s silly. We'll all kick ass," she declares firmly, though her hand creeps up to close around the key hanging around her neck.
Alicia takes a deep breath and nods her head, finally releasing the hug from Bernie. "Yah.. we all kick ass." Swiping her tongue along her lips, she clicks the familiar steel ball upon her teeth. "Way I see it, if Nevada passed, shit, we got cake walk. He can't even read." She giggles. "We got it made. But you know what'd so suck? Like.. what if everyone who went to that other Sept, didn't make it? Damn, we'd be like.. the Elders or something."
Bernie blinks, sinking back into the cushion. "...damn. That'd suck. No way, though. I mean, they wouldn't go in without, like, strategy an' tactics an' all, right? So, yeah. We'll remain down here in our proper position, holdin' up th' resta th' totem pole. An' they'll come back an' lick their wounds an' all'll be well."
Alicia grins at her. "Yah... no way a whole group of Garou can get wiped out. I mean, from what I saw, it was everyone from Robert to... Adam." She shrugs. "And a whole lot of Get of Fenris, that means.. woo! Lots of blood." Drawing a knee to her chest, she mummers. "Next time I see Tom, I'm begging him to buy us a TV."
Bernie nods. "Bet the FOX programming 'zecutives'd drown in their own drool 'f they could broadcast what's goin' on over there," she agrees, pulling her own knees up toward her chest, and letting go of her necklace to wrap her arms loosely about them. "...isn't that much good on TV anyhow. But sometimes it's decent for boredom, I guess..."
Alicia nods and gives a slight grin. "I bet if they had a news reporter down there. Jerry Springer and WWF would totally be in the shitter for life. Ohhh.. well.. I'd rather watch TV then... hang out in the barn." She says with a grin. "I haven't seen TV in almost three years."
Bernie blinks, tilting her head. "Really? Funky. I jus' go hang out in th' department stores sometimes when I'm bored, watch it there. 'til they tell me t' get lost, or I get sicka it an' thinka somethin' better t' do." She regards the other cub a moment, then reaches down with one hand to scoop up her bag, and unzips a pocket, pulling out a small item and handing it to Alicia. It seems to be a round white pin that reads, in red, I (heart) Milk. That done, she rezips the bag and sets it back down, returning her arm to its place about her legs.
Alicia glances at it, then giggles softly. "I love Milk?" She turns a curious gaze to the Gnawer, then pins it to her jeans, right at the hip. Satisfied, her lips pull into a huge grin. "Cool beans. Now I have all the vitamin A I could ever need."
Bernie just grins back broadly, no explanation forthcoming. "And everyone knows y'gotta getcher vitamins." She unwraps her arms again, and stretches, pushing her hands up toward the ceiling. "So what were ya singin' when I came in?"
Alicia thinks for a moment and smiles. "Just an old slow song from back in the day. Ah'dunno, jus' thinking about Nevada ah'guess. He upp'd an left to be a cow boy, left Yi a note. I miss him."
Bernie nods a little, arms returning to their previous position. "...yeah... Yi mentioned he went off t' follow a dream... gonna be a cowboy, huh? She said he's comin' back, though..." She tosses her head slightly, forcing the curls back behind her shoulder. "...y' miss him since he went off t' wherever... or jus' in gen'ral?"
Alicia thinks for a moment and feels a smile creep across her face. "He told me right before he left, that he loved me, that I'm his best friend. That was cool of him, I guess. I miss him in general, I always miss him. He's a big part of my life."
Bernie smiles slightly, and nods, then sighs a little. "'s good, I guess. Glad you guys are cool an' all. 's good t' have people, an' all."
Alicia nods her head in response as she ponders for a moment, grinning. "You got me too Bernie bear." She teases, linking her arm through yours.
Bernie giggles. "Yeah, I got you, babe," she replies, half-singing the line -- heck, the song only gets half-sung in the original form anyhow. She settles back into the cushions a bit, giving the linked arm a squeeze. "So how ya doin', 'side from bein' bored?"
Alicia mmmm's. "I'm ok. I talked to Rides-Fire, ganna go back out an do the wolfy thing again for a few more weeks. You wanna join us maybe?" She asks. "Its so cool once ya get the hang of it, and its a shit load of exercise. I'm sure by the end of the month, we'll look like two wiry ethiopians."
Bernie looks doubtful. "I dunno, I never really went for that famine victim look..." She smiles briefly, and adds, "...maybe. We'll see, I still got a lotta trainin' an' shit t' do b'sides th' wolf stuff, y'know? But I do also gotta do 'smorea that, I think."
Alicia nods her head and grins. If the Gnawer has noticed, its been a few weeks since she's used her ebonics, or ghetto tongue. Offering a quick smile, she stiffles a yawn. "Its real necessary, it'll help ya with the other forms too."
Bernie's manner of speech hasn't really changed at all, in contrast. She shrugs slightly and nods. "Yeah, well. Like I said, we'll see." She sighs slightly, finger combing her curls. "Dammit. I'm all antsy again, an' it's only a half-moon, too. Dunno what th' deal is."
"PMS?" She asks, licking her lips after a soft laugh.
Bernie snickers, and shrugs again, with a bit of a grin. "Hell, could be, yeah. Don't usually get it, but who knows?"
Alicia blinks at her. "You don't usually get it? Shit, I get it once a month still. Lucky you." Slumping into the couch, she flops to the side, letting her arm unhook from yours, tucking the pillow under her head.
Bernie gets comfy, and nods. "Usually, it just kinda comes an' goes unannounced. Dunno, what can I say." She sighs a little, pulling a cushion into a hug agianst her chest. "So, yeah, 's possible. But unusual."
Alicia nods and yawns once more, groaning. "I'm tired darling, and its getting late. I'm going to turn in an get a few hours in before morning comes. Then its off to the Caern for a quick run around and stretch. Will I see ya tomorrow?"
Bernie nods back. "Yeah, prolly. I gotta try an' get some stuff all figured out an' stuff, talk t' a few people, shit like that, but prolly I'll see ya t'marra." She looks at the other cub a few moments, and smiles. "Sleep well," she adds, "...dream sweet."
Alicia yawns louder this time, covering her mouth as she stands. "Mmmm.. dont' let the bed bugs bite." She wiggles her fingers, then climbs the stairs up on lumbering, tired steps.
